Perspectives of the online environment

  Perspectives of the online environment
The first article :Mind Control and the Internet, which I don't have full access to, and Eli Pariser are against interest algorithms. While Clive Thompson on High-Bandwidth Buddies is for them. The first two say that these algorithms stare us away from new ideas and  conflicting perspectives which can may our conversations bland. While Clive argues that similar people can kature their new feeds to fit your pace. In addition you can see how different your searches are compared to other people which limits arguments. This can be great because it can shine light to new knowledge meanwhile we don't want an increase in flame wars.  Familiarity and diversity are also important to become a well versed internet citizen.
Sue and Eli are forgetting that we interact more with the people who we are more familiar with than not. While it can limit our amount of news, we few more comfortable bring more radical ideas to them. In addition people know each others limits better which will bring more flavor into arguments. Diversity is a double edged sword because it brings more ideas but limits novelty. Clive points out that a good internet citizen needs to have diverse friends. Meanwhile the others say that it can bombard people with too much information. So, what's important is balance among old and new ideas on and off the internet.

  1. You wrote an interesting piece here. I have completely forgotten about "flame wars" because, in my opinion, nobody talks about it anymore. I also like that you wrote "Diversity is a double-edged sword because it brings more ideas but limits novelty", because I have never thought about it that way. I think I can see it and feel it when I am living in New York because everything happens here. New York is the world entertainment center where all commercial and people come together. Yet there is so much people here that it has lost it's uniqueness, in the way that nothing is new.

  2. I really like how you worded this article. I like how you discussed about how important diversity is and how we should have a a well versed internet citizen. I also agree with that the internet can see what we search for and show us certain websites that the internet knows were interested in but if everyone searched the same thing different websites would pop up for different people. I think that everyone should be able to see the same website, everyone should have the same information and have a more diverse look into it.
