Obama's Online Campaign
Obama's Online Campaign
During the president campaign of 2008 a local Chicago senator named Barack Obama used the web to gain and advantage against the Clinton's. The bulk of his campaign was a website called www.my.barackobama.com donating, organizing meet ups and formatting contact lists easier. While many other candidates had websites none where more professional or had as much of a high profile staff as Obama's. People like the co-founder of Facebook worked at the forefront of this website. With this tool the campaign earned 55 million in a single month as opposed to the Clinton. Now it is so famous that other candidates for future races are using it for their own campaigns. In addition he would use online phone banks and constantly post the campaign process on multiple social media sites. This raised more awareness to his website as well as increase customer satisfaction. Customer service was done at 100's of calls an hour which maybe the site friendly for tech novices and professionals alike. This made more people vote and be based on more pressing matters than just which political party you were in. It also raised his reputation which meant that he had more supporters even when the white house was against him.
Great post. you did a great job outlining how Obama used the web in order to help improve his popularity and get him support that Clinton couldn't keep up with without the web. Obama had a huge advantage that he had help from very qualified people like the co-founder of facebook to help him with his Web stuff. Communicating with people on their phones also helped reach people much easier.
